A Spring into Summer giveaway from Fisher-Price!

Late in the afternoon yesterday, after eight solid years days of rain and clouds, the sun came out, the temperatures shot up, and just like that, it felt like summer. Yay!

Summer is my favourite season. Bring on the heat, the humidity, the bugs — just let me get out and enjoy it. I get giddy in the seasonal sections of the hardware store, admiring the BBQs and the lawn furniture. I love to browse in the garden centre. And I am a sucker for outdoor toys.

Oh how I love outdoor toys. From swings to sidewalk chalk, bikes to bubbles, I love them all. My friends at FisherPrice.ca offered this perspective from Dr Kathleen Alfano, Ph.D, the Director of Child Research at Fisher-Price.

“Play is so important. It’s the way children learn about the world around them.” says Dr Alfano. “Playing actively outdoors also increases flexibility, fine and gross motor skills and is related to the development of a wide variety of physical skills, including those involved in sports. Toys that require balance and coordination, such as skates, scooters and bikes, teach children new skills, encourage the development of self-confidence and satisfy their interest in exploration.”

To celebrate our mutual love of outdoor toys, Fisher-Price and I are happy to offer a fun Spring into Summer giveaway: a Barbie Tough Trike, perfect for your favourite little girl aged 2 to 5 years old!

  1. My Mom visited last week and we went out and bought a sand and water table. My daughter immediately took delight in splashing and every time we’re outside she goes over to it, even when the cover is on. It’s going to be a great way to spend time this summer.

  2. Our favorite outdoor toy is hands down the soccer balls! My kids can spend hours kicking it around the park! Fab giveaway Dani!!

  3. My favourite outdoor toy as a child was an old skateboard. I would sit on it and scoot myself along pretending it was a car. I would do this for HOURS just scooting along the driveway and sidewalk. My other favourite toy was the Pogo Ball. Once I got the hang of it, you couldn’t get me off! Good times. 🙂

  4. Our favorite toys are the basics. skipping ropes, frisbees, sidewalk chalk and marbles

  5. Our favorite is the water table – easily! Hours of entertainment and it never gets boring!!

    Thanks for the opportunity! 🙂

  6. New fave outdoor toy? Easy: scooter. I discovered my kid’s scooter and I can’t get enough!

  7. ONE favourite outdoor toy? 😉 I guess the play structure but really the water table is a huge hit and we just got a playhouse that I think is going to be used a lot.

I have a 2 year old girl who would love that trike 🙂

  8. My favorite outdoor toys are the sand toys, especially the digger and dump truck. I get this on good authority…from my kids!!

  9. I second Rebecca on this one. I had a big wheel and a battlestar galactica helmet. I was so damned cool, flying around the hood on my big wheel with my helmet. It almost didn’t matter that it was my brother’s hand me down!

PS – if you have a boy and you’ve entered, there’s a great women’s shelter that has a drop off at a church on Merivale, just south of Baseline. They don’t get a lot of new stuff. Also, they really like plus sized women’s clothing.

  10. My favourite outdoor toy? A garden hose. What’s better than water fun on a hot summer day? And the best part is you can hook up everything from a sprinkler to a slip’n’slide to it, or use it to fill up a pool, or grow a garden with your kids…

  11. My favorite outdoor toy has to be the kids lawn mower, It’s funny to see them run around and make vrooom noises

  12. Oh, the memories! Riding my big wheel with a pack of other hellions at our Centretown co-op apartment complex. Those things were SO loud, especially once you got some gravel embedded in the wheel. My current favourite has to be my son’s new balance bike. He is a whole new independent boy on that thing.

  13. My favorite outdoor toy is bubbles. Do they count as a toy? If not, squirt guns are another favorite at our house.
