Tristan has been thinking a lot lately about how things will be when he grows up.
First, there will be a new set of rules. Nobody will ever have to cut their fingernails, or go to bed if they don’t feel like it, or share with their brother.
And he’ll be financing his long-nailed and sleepy lifestyle with a variety of career options. These are the things he has told me he wants to be when he grows up, in roughly the order he announced them:
- an elephant trainer
- King (I love this one)
- a fry cook (curse you, Sponge Bob)
- an animal doctor
- a hairstylist (!!)
Last week, he looked at me with those stunning, clear gray eyes of his and confided, “Mommy, I know who I’m going to marry when I grow up.”
“You do?” I asked, my heart already breaking with the cuteness of it. “And who might that be?”
“Katie!” he announced with assurance.
I could only laugh. I mean, she’s a gorgeous blond with soulful brown eyes, and she’s as loyal as the day is long, but I don’t think it will ever work out for them.
Did I mention Katie is our dog?
Hey, he’s staying away from the stereotypical ones! FYI – I wanted to be a Jedi.
OMG, how hilarious!
This is heartbreakingly close to the conversations we’ve been having about Halloween costumes…..
too cute! lots of conversations around here about who will marry whom too. Baby girl wants to marry her best friend Marie to which baby boy affirms: can’t do that , girls don’t marry each other (toddler dating rule #1). Baby boy wants to marry his twin sister to which baby girl affirms: can’t do that, boys can’t marry girls who are older, even by 12 minutes! (toddler dating rule #2)
I loved this! I was totally surprised that it was the dog (too cute!). My son aspires to “be in the phone book” and my baby wants to be a rock star or an artist, only she says to me, “I don’t have the clothes to be an artist,” like she is sooooo dressing like a rock star. This is a precious story and I like the “King” too!
My almost four year old daughter plans to marry her two year old brother. It’s a worry…
Well, he could do worse.
Hey, she could do a lot worse, too!
Way too cute!
As the narrator of Frog in Love says: “Love knows no boundaries.”
Marrying the dog can’t be all that bad!!
