We definitely need a Yay Day!

Whaddya think, peeps? We’re long overdue for a Yay Day around here.

If you haven’t been by on Yay Day before, the rules are simple. Leave a comment with something that makes you happy today, or something that makes you proud, or something that makes you smile. Celebrate the small victories in life – and the big ones, too! For once, you’re allowed to brag to your heart’s content.

Given my emotional instability of the past week or so, I’m feeling surprisingly happy today, and that alone is a reason to celebrate. And the boys, those boys who were in one of ‘those’ testing phases, the relentless and exhausting testing phases? Apparently they’re done. They’ve been just lovely little creatures for the past 30 hours or so, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying simply being with them.

Hmmm, which came first – the relaxed and contented mommy or the relaxed and contented boys?

Regardless, here’s my contribution to Yay Day: the simple pleasure of a sprinkler and a warm summer evening.

(That’s a soccer game in the background. One of the occupational hazzards of living across the street from a park – the invasion of the minivan-driving soccer parents three nights a week!)

Your turn! What is making you happy today?

  1. Yay Day? Well today I am happy because it is gorgeous weather, our grass is green, my little boy slept in his bed all night long without his usual wake up call from the neighbours, and I am off to visit my Sister in Regina on Saturday. Oh yes and I am getting closer to the day I will meet my newest family member and I am really starting to get excited.
    Yay!

  2. I am happy because the doctor told me yesterday that everything looked fine with my baby.
I am happy that I got lots of cuddles from my girl before she left for daycare.

  3. I’m happy because my toddler has been nothing short of perfect the last week or so and that makes my decision to stay home for the next year seem perfect too. Yay me!

  4. Yay that you’re happy!
My yay is that after having supper last night with the mother of a teenage girl, I’m feeling profoundly blessed that:
    A. I will never have to be a teenager again.
    B. My mother actually still loves me and didn’t ship me off to boarding school in Siberia, which I fully deserved.

  5. I’m happy because it’s warm and sunny, and I get to work in the garden.
I’m happy because I’m on parental leave and get to work in the garden.
I’m happy that my kid has a mod hawk and he thinks the world of himself.
I’m happy because I’m going to work at camp this summer as the assistant director.
I’m happy because I have a wonderful and supportive wife.
I’m happy because my tomato plants survived the frost earlier this week.
    I’m happy because I’m happy.

  6. I’m happy that you and the boys are having fun.
    I’m happy because I got an invite to Ravlery ( http://www.ravelry.com )
I’m happy because there is a 3-day weekend coming up and I don’t have to go anywhere in a car or play nice with people I don’t get along with. Instead DH, ChaosGirl, and I get to stay home and play in our sprinkler ๐Ÿ™‚
I’m happy because I found a cute summer purse that holds my traveling sock knitting.

  7. How did you know that I posted about being happy today?? Because I did!
There are lots of reasons, but mostly I’m happy because I’m going to the Sens rally at lunchtime! ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. My 3.25 year old daughter wrote her first word, all by herself, yesterday evening. I never thought that the word C-A-T would be so special! But I’m so proud and a little weepy, but most of all, happy! It’s a gorgeous day outside – what’s not to love?

  9. I’m happy your boys have made you happy.
I’m happy that even though I rear-ended some guy on Carling on my way to work yesterday morning, there was no damage, and profuse apologies were all that were necessary to deal with the situation. He was very nice.
I’m happy that even with all the stress attendant with the minor car accident, I made it to work in time for my appointment to take my French Second Language testing in reading and writing.
And I’m REALLY happy because I took the test to see for myself where I was in my casual French training (3 hours a week), thinking that I would probably get only A levels, but pulled off a comfortable B in writing, and a totally surprise C in reading! I’m hoping that a future yay day will find me crowing about the results of the oral, which is scheduled next month, but not so sure about that.

  10. I’m happy that the lad who fell about five feet from the deck face first into packed dirt looks and feels quite like his old self and so he is back to preschool for the morning.

  11. I am happy that our meeting with my son’s urologist today went well and his condition is improving. Not so happy that he will still take antibiotics for another year but overall, I am HAPPY!
I am happy my boy is just at the best age ever and gives the best hugs and kisses without even being asked.
I am happy that the weather is so great and I am happy about some other happy news that I will share later!

  12. Sweet! And you don’t have to ask me twice to brag about myself, I’m all over that on any given day.
I’ve been hiking my butt off for three weeks so today I’m happy about the sexy slimming skirt and tank I wore to work… and that the flabby chicken waddle under my biceps is SHRINKING along with the rest of me.
It’s also really nice to read everybody else’s happy comments. Good idea!

  13. I’m happy for you and all your other bloggy friends, Dani. Great stories out there ๐Ÿ™‚ Forgive me for telling you this if it turns out to stick to your memory the way I’m sure it’s stuck to mind. While swinging in a park on Monday morning, Sam excitedly shouted out, “HEY! ‘Happiness’ rhymes with ‘A penis! Happiness. A penis. That’s a rhyme!!” Yes. That it is. It’ll be a long time before any mention of happiness doesn’t bring up that kooky memory. I’m happy for such funny little moments.

  14. *howling with laughter*
I’ll never think of happiness or penis(es) in the same way…
Great comments today, everyone! Tanya, we were at the rally too! What fun!!

  15. yay for a yay day!
    yay for dani being happy!
had a most wonderful morning with the twins accompanying them for a school outing (their last one with this school) to the Experimental farm
loved how they held my hand throughout and were SO happy that I went along with them ๐Ÿ™‚
being a mom is just the best

  16. I’m profoundly happy that I stopped on the way back from teh Sens rally to get an orange Mr Freeze. There’s nothing like a freezie to bring you back in time. Does anyone else remember biking around with a freezie hanging from your mouth? Without a helmet, and mostly without any hands on the handlebars?
It’s no wonder my mum went white at an early age. Not that we’re allowed to mention that! :o)

  17. I am super excited, happy excited, cause my 5 year old niece is running in the Family Fun Run at the Capital Race Weekend. Her first marathon, I can’t wait. I am going to video tape her at the starting line and crossing the finish line. What a wonderful accomplishment at such a young age! Kudos to my sister and her husband for being so supportive of her!

  18. Cool idea. Yay day. Well I’m happy we only got a little bit of snow yesterday. Because it’s May and a lot of snow wouldn’t have made for a very good yay day. I’m also glad to come back on here and see YOU’RE having a yay day!

  19. Yay, yay day!
I’m happy that I’m the only one up and having quiet time on the PC!

  20. I’m late to the party, but we’re happy here too. Started building a “clubhouse” for the kids in the back yard, sort of an addition to the big wooden swingset. It will have a weatherproof house downstairs, and an open deck above that can be reached via a trap door, or by climbing up the ladder to the slide. The kids “helped” Dad raise the walls, and then they really got to help me paint the outside. It’s going to be a lot of fun this summer!
