Hey, who’s that good-looking family on the cover of the Life section in today’s G&M?

Oh look, it’s us!

A couple of weeks ago, a writer from the Globe and Mail got in touch with me to ask about “Gaming Moms”. We chatted for a bit, and told her that while I’m not exactly a gaming mom, I have grown quite fond of our Wii after some initial reservations about bringing a video game system into the house. She asked if she could send a photographer over, and I said, “Hmm-let-me-think-about-it-okay-how’s-right-now?”

(Yeah, whatever, they juxtapositioned me playing video games with my family against Michelle Obama going to the gym. Thanks for THAT, G&M editors.)

The article itself is on page 2, and there’s a second picture that I like so much more. I’ll scan it tonight and put it up for you.

And yes, as a matter of fact a quarter after five on a weekday is perhaps the most inopportune possible time that one could invite a photographer from Canada’s National Newspaper over for a photo shoot. Hungry kids, tired parents, and the boys absolutely torqued with excitement: “We get to play Wii? Before dinner?? On a school night?!?”

Bit of a shame that she didn’t mention my other child, the blog, in the article. Ah well, one more clipping to add to the family therapy scrap book!

  1. How fun, Dani!

I love when you know you’re going to be in the newspaper… I remember a feature done on my mom for ‘local celebrity homes’ a couple of years ago and they took picture of most of the rooms in the house and had my sister and I sitting in her room, reading, and in the family room, just chilling.. it was fun! And anytime my sons are mentioned, I have to clip the articles and save them! ๐Ÿ™‚

I think it’s great that you’re in a bigger photo then Michelle! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Awesome Dani! Very fun to be included, good thing they didn’t have our number as it would have been a fight between xBox and Wii, I can’t decide which I prefer really. But, shhhhhh don’t tell the boys I play when they aren’t home ;).

  3. So fun! Looking forward to reading the article later.

Our 3-year-old loves the Wii, and I love that (when she concentrates) she can actually beat me sometimes! If we were going to have a gaming system, I’m glad it’s one that at least requires some level of activity.

  4. I just felt my own Cool Quotient drop another point or two. Ummm, I don’t think we can be friends anymore…

Cool coverage. And no one’s saying anything nasty about you or your sex life in the G&M online commentary!

  5. So cool! We’ve got a just-turned-four-year-old RockBand junkie on our hands here – it’s freaky how good he is! I fought the Wii for a long time, and now am happy I finally gave in to hubby and we bought one (but don’t tell him that) ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Very cool, Dani! I spoke to a reporter a little while before Christmas and she was thinking about sending a photographer over, so I ran around like a nut to make myself presentable (I was in the middle of making chocolate cupcakes with the girlie!).. but thank goodness in the end she didn’t need a pic.

We’re pretty big fans of the Wii ourselves, especially the Wii Fit, I get such a kick out of watching my 4 year old run in her little girlie fashion (note, I WATCH… need to get off my butt and DO LOL!!

  7. Karen – Wii Fit is awesome! My 3 year old is so good at some of the yoga poses. I suck, however! My balance is totally off!

  8. You know you’ve made it to the mainstream when…

that is pretty cool, babe, and what a scrapbook item!
