I’m good, but I’m not that good

I’m feeding the baby on the couch. Tristan and Simon are playing upstairs. Tristan calls down.

“Mom!” he bellows, coming down the stairs. “I need some red fabric.” I marvel for a minute that he knows a word like ‘fabric’ before replying.

“Well, there’s a red polar fleece blanket in Lucas’s closet, but it has teddy bears on it.”

“No, that’s no good,” he says.

“What do you need it for?” I ask.

“Brownie needs a superhero cape,” he replies. Brownie is his Webkinz doggie.

“Just use the superman cape that’s on your jammies,” I suggest.

“No, I looked for it but it’s in the dirty clothes hamper,” he whines. I’m mildly surprised that that stopped him, but shrug.

“Sorry, buddy, I can’t think of anything else we’d have that might work.”

“Well,” he says, a little petulantly, “can’t you just knit some or something?”

  1. Hee hee. Like you have so much time on your hands to knit, and that you can knit a cape in 5 minutes…

And at the risk of sounding pervy, I read yesterday’s blog and was hoping your breast feels better today.

  2. Sure, Dani, just whip that up while your nursing Lucas! It’s not like that would be difficult or anything.

  3. See, that’s where the extra working arm (that should be standard on all moms with over two kids) would be helpful….

  4. Yeah, that extra arm thing would come in handy.

Alison, thanks for asking about my breasts. That’s not weird at all. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Unfortunately, I’m now having trouble with the other side (maybe I overcompensated yesterday?) and I feel bleh. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.

  5. Your boys make me laugh out loud. You should be proud that Tristan thinks you are capable of whipping up a red cape at such short notice…..with a babe in arms and sore breasts.

  6. Bwahahaha!

I’m not sure I knit more than 10 rows in Spencer’s first six months! Had I also been nursing full time, I’m sure that number would have dropped dramatically!

And, I’m really surprised he suggested a knitted cape in this heat wave we are having!!!!

  7. He has impressive faith in your abilities. My daughter uses my scarves to paly dress-up, and when she can’t find one she just scolds, “It’s your job to keep track of your things.”

  8. For once, I’m understanding the appeal of those electric knitting machines. ๐Ÿ™‚

Seriously, as Veronica said, his comment just goes to show that he believes that you can do anything. (And having seen you in action myself, he’s not that far from wrong.)

Thanks for popping over to see the new digs. The comment feature was just introduced this week so you arrived just in time.

  9. Yeah, geez mom, can’t you just conjure it up out of thin air?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The more I learn about this parenting thing, the more in awe I am of good parents like yourself. And the more I am afraid I will never have the patience required…

  10. So what’s holding you up? Get those Knitting needles moving. OMG รƒย alamost peed myself with that one. Don’t ask me what made me laugh more Tristan asking or the thought of you whipping up a red super hero cape!

OH I hope that your boobs are better. I remeber having that and sitting in a er for hours to get seen.

    HUGS
