At least I’m consistently late

in Postcards from my uterus

Hey, that’s not right! The counter on my baby countdown ticker went to zero yesterday and is now going in reverse, showing one day to go. No no no, I EARNED that “due date plus one” designation. What do you think of these tickers instead?

(Cutesy overload, I know. Good thing I’m not having glucose issues with this pregnancy.)

Regardless, I’m quite grateful to the Player to be Named Later for holding off yesterday. Aside from Simon’s birthday, we received about 30 cm (12 inches) of snow, and I don’t think the commute across town to the hospital would have been pleasant. It’s clear and blue this morning, and looks to stay that way for the next couple of days.

My darling midwife called yesterday and asked if I could come in for an off-hours appointment today. She’ll likely do a “stretch and sweep”, where she’ll stimulate the production of prostaglandins by separating the bottom of the amniotic sac from the wall of my uterus — hopefully, inducing labour. She also suggested a castor oil cocktail, but I just can’t bring myself to go that far. Feel free to violate my nether regions, but don’t make me poop this baby out. Even I have my limits!

And, here’s the really exciting news: my official hospital inducement has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 5. It is, of course, subject to operational capabilities of the hospital (meaning I’ll be delayed if there is a sudden baby rush) but safe to say that baby will be making his big debut by the end of next week at the very latest.

The counter is using absolute value? There’s a bug! It must have been programmed by men if they didn’t even consider the possibility of going past your due date.

Your substitute tickers are adorable. And my captcha is
is pectation

just mispronounce it a bit and you get
expectation

I like ‘we’re having an elephant’ … because by the end of my last pregnancy, that’s how i felt.

I’m glad you didn’t do the hospital run yesterday, it was kind of blizzardy, wasn’t it. Today would be a lovely sunny day to have a baby, one day past your due date. I remember the look of horror in the librarian’s eyes when I took Leah to the library while pg with Rae and she asked “When are you due, dear?” and I said “Yesterday.” I think she thought I was going to drop the baby right then and there. She checked my books out quite speedily.

I hope it isn’t too long for you. I do remember the gestating an elephant feeling. Good luck!

YAY! Here’s to lights at the end of the tunnel!

I love my Catchpa today: ‘the maturity’. Clearly it picked the wrong person.

It must be encouraging to have a plan, and an end-date in sight now. So glad Simon’s birthday party was a success. I loved your post about him.
Best of luck,

Damn, I lost the pool!

I have btdt with the castor oil. I hadn’t slept in 2 nights and my OB and my doula ganged up on me. I’ve had better six hour periods in my life–but also worse ones. It got things going in that entire area–if he’s already low and engaged, you might have a good chance!

Bonne chance! 🙂 (Five years of public school French! Good, eh?)

Where is my twitter update?

Your midwife suggested castor oil??? I’ve heard nothing good about castor oil. Several women on my Babycenter bulletin board formed a castor oil club, with a rate of one baby out of about twenty – everybody else just glued their bums to a toilet for a day, then nothing. The stretch and sweep, on the other hand, is good stuff. Good luck!
