Friday comment game – it’s all about you!

I’ve been staring at this empty interface for long enough. I give up, I got nothing for you today. Well, that’s not exactly true. I’ve got a rant about diapers, but I think it follows a little too closely on my rant about BBQ chips and my rant about punctuation spacing, and maybe I need to take a break from the rants. And I could tell you about some of the really cool stuff coming up next week – but then what would I brag blog about next week?

So instead, let’s play another comment game. Even if you read only occassionally, you all know a LOT about me, but I can’t always say the same. This game is all about you, and getting to know you better. (I can’t remember where I saw this one – if I subconsciously stole it from you, please let me know and I’ll be sure to give you credit!)

It’s a cocktail party, and you all have to make small talk. Pay attention, cuz if you play there’s TWO parts to each comment. Each person who comments will answer the question in the comment directly above theirs, and then pose a question of their own for the next person. Got it? Each comment has the answer to the previous question, and the question for the next person.

The questions can be on whatever topic you like, and you can take as long or as little to answer as you like. The kind of questions I imagined should be about personal preferences, attitudes and opinions, along the lines of the ones you see in those e-mail memes: what’s the last book you read? What’s your favourite movie? What’s under your bed? Vanilla or chocolate? What’s the best vacation you ever took? What are your pets’ names and why? (Yes, I know, these are lame questions. But I trust that you can do oh so much better.)

Okay, so my question for the first commenter is: What’s your favourite breakfast cereal?

  1. Honeycombs. Seriously. When I was a kid, my mum would only buy cornflakes and rice krispies, no fun cereals at all. So every now and then I buy a box, and I hide it from the kids.
What was the last CD you bought or song you downloaded?

  3. I just bought Sarah McLauchlin’s Wintersongs album, because I am a sucker for christmas and her voice is perfect for light, airy christmas songs. Do I feel strange listening to christmas music before halloween? No. Because when I was growing up, mom would pull out the christmas music after thanksgiving, and I am continuing with that tradition. As much as it might drive my partner nuts…

  5. I bought the new Red Hot Chili Peppers CD yesterday when I dropped a whole bubch of old, haven’t listened to in over a year so I must not need them CDs to a local used store. I got $120 credit to use for getting rid of stuff I don’t use. I am totally pshyched!
Name your favourite vacation spot and why.

  7. Uh oh! Last minute rule addition: if there is duplicate posting, you can choose to answer either question. Sound reasonable?
(I’m positively giddy that you ‘get’ it and are playing along!!)

  9. My favorite vacation spot is not anywhere in particular, but it usually involves a beach to sit and relax on and let the kids run and play.

  11. “My Secret Garden” was my favorite book, followed closely by “Mandy”. Both are about little girls who go off on their own to their secret places. As the only girl in a family with 5 brothers, you can see where I might enjoy the escapist qualities of both of those books!
Are you a cat or dog person… and why?

  13. I’m going to answer Suze’s question since hers didn’t get an answer. My latest guilty pleasure TV show is Heroes. It’s kind of an X-Men knock off but more realistic (no costumes, regular people discoving they can do extraordinary things).
If you had a week to do whatever you wanted with no responsibilites and lots of money would you rather stay home by yourself or go on a vacation?

  15. I love the book The Secret Garden.
I am a cat person. The thing I hate about dogs is that they can be trained. They can be so docile and obedient. Cats are independent. I respect that.

  17. I would definitely go on a vacation in a hot spot, with a beach, sun and fun.
Have you been to any good restaurants lately?

  19. No, sadly. Last time we ate out was Milestones wayyyy in Ottawa and it was overpriced and not at all good. Great Bellinis though! If you want good food and great beer, try The Postmaster Pub in Almonte. ๐Ÿ™‚
If you could choose a superpower of the following three which would it be and why?
    -X-Ray Vision
    -The ability to fly
    -Invisibility

  21. Ooh, I’d want to fly!! Although it might be fun to be invisible…but I think in the end, I’d want to fly.
If you were going to run for a political office, tell me what wonderful things you would do so that I would vote for you?

  23. I would increase penalties for criminals, institute the death penalty for murderers and all sexual offenders, and I would like to somehow hold defense lawyers responsible for the conduct of their clients after they have been acquited (in cases where they re-offend). I think that society has too much crime and the courts are not effective enough to deter or punish the criminals.
How many quarters do I have in my pocket? Just kidding. How about this…if you could live any where in the world and in any era throughout history, where would you go?

  25. I would make sure that the schools had the best of everything (our schools are currently in danger of cutting the art, music, and p.e. programs because people don’t want to pay more taxes). If we don’t give our kids an excellent education, then what are they going to grow up to be?
When you were younger, did you envision yourself on your wedding day and/or if you would be a parent (and did you have any baby names picked out?) ?

  27. I think I would live in the early 1900’s in Paris. Art, music, love… and all in French ๐Ÿ™‚
What is your favourite movie, the one you can quote and stop to watch every time it’s on TV, no matter how many times you’ve already seen it?
P.S. I’m bending the rules, but I’ll answer my own question, too – Top Gun!

  29. Magnolia. Tom Cruise is in that one too, before he was crazy. If you haven’t seen this movie, see it.

  33. I would start a Canadian branch of the Children’s Neuroblastoma Foundation as my little guy has battled and won with that cancer.
Do you ever purposely put money in your coat pockets at the end of the season so when you bring them out again next year you find the money?!?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. Oh wow, Amanda – great answer!
Um, yes, I have put money in my coat pocket so I could find it next season! I don’t do it too often, but I appreciate myself when I do!
What’s something you’ve done that you never would have thought you would do?

  37. I dislike the fact that I any time I make a bad decision or find something difficult I believe myself to be a huge failure. It’s not a rational response. No one’s perfect, but it’s for me to remember and I hate that. Ack. Depressing answer.
So here’s a silly question! Where is your secret candy/cookie hiding place. You know, the one that the kid/husband don’t know about.

  41. uh… my coat pocket of my out-of- season coat? Seriously. People hide cookies?

  45. I’m playing again1
It’s embarassing, but I think I have over 50 pairs of shoes. 20 of them are flip-flops. 5 are soccer cleats. 3 are running shoes. The rest are boots and regular shoes.
What is your favourite facial feature?

  47. Hmmm, is that what is my favourite facial feature on me, or on someone else? Actually, I think the answer is the same. I’ve always been fond of my dimples, and I tend to like them on other people, too.
Have you ever done something naughty or illegal and gotten away with it?

  51. Hi Jennifer!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Hey, keep playing as long as you like. I’ll be here!
Jay, my own bedtime ritual involves the usual bathroom business (pee, brush teeth, etc.) and then usually 20 minutes of reading. The boys are much more ritualized than me at bedtime – usually I’m just happy to crawl between the covers and have survived another day!
Have you ever walked out of a movie theatre in the middle of a movie? What was the movie and why did you leave?

  53. Yup, I have. It was Mel Gibson’s Ransom. Didn’t care much for all the violence. It’s been the only movie so far I’ve walked out of.
If you were writing an autobiography, what would be the title of it?
