Talk to me!

Tomorrow marks our triumphant (hey, you had to know I’d milk it) return to local daytime television, as Andrea, Kristina and I will be the featured bloggers on CJOH’s News at Noon with the endearing Leanne Cusack.

Aside from the usual panic on Important Topics like the potential for a bad hair day or wardrobe malfunction, I’m worried about what to say. (Substance over style – can you imagine?) I’d like to spend a little less time talking about mom blogging and a little bit more time on the impact of blogs on communication, interpersonal connection and the MSM – but we’re at the mercy of the viewing audience and the questions they might ask. (New panic – what if they ask a question we can’t answer? Oh, the pressure!)

If you had five minutes and a captive audience, what would you say about blogs, blogging and being a blogger?

  1. That it’s OPTIONAL. That you owe nothing to anyone, that it’s your forum, and you can put as much or as little into it as you want. That there are periods of blog fatigue and fervor. And that the minute it stops being fun, stop.

  3. If they ask a quesiton you can’t answer (is that possible?), you can tell them you’ll put the answer up on your blog. That’s a great way to get more traffic.
    Good luck!

  5. I’d comment on how blogging has helped bring people & ideas together using the very medium that critics were afraid would actually pull people apart. Fascinating.

  7. You could say that “When you blog, you too can have your very own groupies!” I, for example, am a Dani-groupie. We should start a club, we Dani-groupies. We could call ourselves…The Danielles? And we could freak out over your….Danilogues? I love it!
Listen, all jokes aside, have a GREAT time tomorrow. You’re going to be great! 🙂

  9. I agree with OttawaFreddy. People often blame “the compuetr” or the “damn Internet” for keep us in our homes and not communictaing wiht each other. While this can be true of some people, look at your very own community here.
I have visited just about everyone of your commentors blogs.

  11. Hrm. Me? What to say? I’d choke for 4 minutes and 59 seconds.
But if I were typing my response, I’d say something like:
If you’re feeling isolated from Real Life communities, for reasons of time-demands, physical demands or other reasons, reading other people’s blogs is a great way to discover that you’re not alone in whatever situation you find yourself. There’s someone out there Just Like You that is posting about the little details that add-up to be their life. There’s a lot of comfort to be had in finding a like-mind.
When you feel comfortable with the technology and want to let your voice soar, setting up your own blog is a wonderful way to meet and connect with like-minded (and some not-so-like-minded) folk. It’s a way to broaden the mind and expand your world view by connecting with people down the street and across the globe. At the very least, it’s a great way to vent frustration without causing bodily harm.
On being a blogger? Hrm. Being so new to this, I don’t think I’ve even considered myself as one yet! What can I say? The blog followed me home. I begged and begged and begged until I was allowed to keep it.

  13. D’oh and I just moved from my apartment on Carling Ave and can’t get CJOH on my rabbit ears in the ‘shwa!
I’ve only started blogging in October/05 so I’m new to it but I find it’s a great creative outlet, a chance to get great ideas for when I (we) eventually have kids, and just get a laugh reading what others write and share. I’m sure you’ve found the same.

  17. Thanks for the nice comment on my site.
Good luck on the news. Here’s a question for you. Do you feel pressure to continue to strive to better your blog?
Talk from your heart, with your knowledge, and it’s sure to be interesting!
