Hot smoothies?

I think by now my affection for Tim Hortons is no secret. (Did you know Timmy’s has its own Wikipedia page? It was there I read about “the Gretzky” – a coffee with nine creams and nine sugars. That can’t be good for you. Is there still room in the cup for coffee after all that?)

I’ve tried just about everything Tim’s has schlepped on to the market, from caramel pecan chocolate chip cookies (to die for) to iced cappuchino (I just can’t warm up to cold coffee) to their garden veggie sandwiches (yum!)

I gotta draw the line on this one, though. New this season, hot smoothies. Okay, maybe the hazelnut and the butter cream ones would be okay, if you’re into hyper-sweet sticky beverages. I take my coffee without sugar, so I’m not impartial here, and I’ve never liked flavoured coffees. But a hot orange smoothie? Bleck!! What were they thinking?

Someone in the marketing department decided to take a run at Starbucks or something, because they’re also offering “flavour shots” in hazelnut, butter caramel, orange and raspberry. “It’s a whole new way to enjoy your favourite Tim Hortons’ beverage. “

Call me a purist if you must, but please keep your syrup away from my coffee. That’s an extra large with three milks to go, thanks.

  1. Let’s try this again..I hit close window in steady of submit. SHIT!
I’ve heard they are to die for. BUT the idea of drinking a HOT Smoothie just makes me quiver. NOW the French Vanilla Cappucino is my drink of choice there. I have one everytime I go out. I’m not a big coffee drinker I put 4 sugars and lots of milk in mine when I do drink it. And so far you the only house that makes good coffee when I come over. Kuddos!
Funny I love the smell but just can’t drink alot of the stuff.
More IMportantly HAVE you seen the new HP Movie yet? Let me know when you have we’ll talk. 🙂
Let’s just say I liked it and Miranda didn’t…PICKY drama geek! LOL!

  2. i take my coffee black, no sugar so the whole hot smoothie thing is not something i will be trying.
however, i do like a subtle hint of flavour in my coffee every once in a while, and the hazelnut is not a bad addition.
but can i just say that it really throws the tim’s wait staff off when you order a black, sugarless coffee.
they: “Black? you mean, nothing in it?”
and then i’m stared at like i’m some freak of nature. they handle my bf’s order of a double double with much greater ease….

  3. My one major regret about my visit to Vancouver and Victoria 2 years ago is that we did not stop at a Tim Hortons and sample their offerings.
That said, I’m not sure I could handle the idea of a hot smoothie, either — maybe if it was chocolate, like a thick hot chocolate drink?

  4. All I know is that it is now officially Egg Nog Latte season at Starbucks!!! I had my first one last night and will be enjoying many many many more in the next 2 months – I figure about 8 pounds worth (on my hips).
Tell Timmy I’ll be back in mid-January, but for the regular coffee, triple milk, no sugar.
Dani & I don’t need sugar in our coffe simply because we are ‘sweet enough’ already.

  5. Ick. Sounds disgusting. Of course, this comes from a person who usually orders a frappachino in the dead of winter, always to be asked if I’m aware that it’s a cold drink?!!! Guess that explains why I’m rated to be ‘Hi Fidelity’ in the John Cusack poll!!;)

  6. ick to those hot smoothies here too!
large coffee two milk (not cream) two sugar (can’t find that damn sweet tooth ;)OR I guess I’m not sweet enough) for me
don’t like flavoured coffee, unless it’s chocolate added as in a moccacino
but do love those Chai Lattes from the Second Cup
    …off to boil some water

  7. OK, girls, now that I can’t leave my house for a Chai Latte (my fav, second cup and Starbucks) or for an Egg Nog Latee, I am drooling here!! Which is good, because the mere thought of the new Timmy’s hot smoothies made me not want to go to Timmy’s at all.
Anna – off to make a Chai tea, closest thing to the latte right now 🙁

  8. As Dani well knows I love everything sweet (including her), but those smoothies make me cringe. Have you evre tried Strawberry Cow as a hot drink? My suggestion, DON’T. Then again when I pour that coffee into the milk my nervous system starts to curdle. Ahh heck, to each their own. I say they’ll last a season and then they’ll try something else disgusting.
By the way Nancy, the thought of an Egg Nog Latte lifts the little hairs on my forearm. You can have ’em. I’ll stick to my minty hot chocolates.

  9. I never knew my kind of coffee was called a Gretzky. I take both my coffee and tea that way, and I call them “Fat ‘n’ Furries” – because they make my ass fat and my teeth feel furry, of course.
Here’s the other thing though – if I don’t order it that way, I have what I call the “No Fun”, which is the smallest, plainest one, served black.
So how did I end up with Serendipity if I like my coffees at either extreme? What was with that quiz?

  10. As a fellow Tim Horton’s freak,i agree with you on the flavour shots.,just give me a medium with milk please. Thanks for info on Gretsky coffee

  11. Peppermint mocha at Starbucks (hold the whipped cream)-worth every penny!
Shouldn’t a smoothie be cold and fruity?

  12. OK, I lurk but never comment (I did vote for you though)and feel I must comment this time. I really need to say – Don’t knock it till you tried it! Have you tried it yet?? Well, I have – all four smoothie flavors. Yes, even the orange one. I don’t like tea or coffee, but do enjoy a french vanilla capacinno every now and then. I gave the new hot smoothies a try and I really like them. Though orange is my least favorite, it isn’t that bad. It’s almost like drinking an orange buried treasure (if you know what that is-ice cream treat from my elementary school days). Anyhow, they are really good – yummy actually.
So where are those minty hot chocolates available?
    Donna
