Proud Canadian, eh?

I’m so proud.

We were at the dinner table the other night and Tristan, in response to something I can’t now recall, said, “It’s cool, eh?”

Barely three years old, and he can “eh” in context. I’m a proud Canadian mommy.

It’s funny, my otherwise patriotic father hates that affectation in my speech. I don’t remember him correcting me as a child, but he did point it out quite a few times when as a grown up I returned home for visits. Perhaps moving to the nation’s capital is what ingrained it so deeply into my linguistic rhythms.

Speaking of endearing things my preschooler says, here’s a conversational vignette from this week that my offspring will not thank me for sharing with the Internet:

Beloved, to Tristan: Get your hand out of your diaper, I’m trying to tape it up.
Tristan: It’s mine!
Me (teasing): No, it’s mine!
Tristan: No, it’s mine. I bought it for two bucks.

Heck, if I’d known they were that cheap, I’d’ve picked one up for myself by now.

LMFAO!!! That is way too cute – I am literally cracking up over here…but PLEASE ask Sir Tristan where I can also get myself one for such a good price, if only it were that easy.

Oh great, 16 geeks (myself included) comment on the Star Wars thread, yet only Nancy and I manage to keep the penis one alive.

much much more…
Rosie (almost 3)after a bath: Mommy, I have “my china” right here.
Ktcakes: hmmmm. yes, that is your “china”. You have to very gentle with it. It is very delicate, and we only take it out for very special people on very special occasions.

LOL Dani! Tristan is just so cute, I can picture him saying it so seriously too. Sorry I wasn’t around earlier to help out on the comments 😉
Anna – thinking that is a very good price.

My mum used to day, “but we don’t talk like that, do we, eh?”

ROFL I love it.

Kate – hilarious!! I related your anecdote to Beloved and he added, “And you keep it under lock and key if you value your inheritance.”
I think he’s ready for a daughter!
And Joan, even your spelling of “mum” is Canadian in pronunciation if not spelling. Have you ever noticed that? Americans tend to draw out the word “Mawm” to our succinct “Mum”. Must be our British roots…

It’s been handy though – living in the states now they assume all my typos are “the way they do it in Canada” not my stupidity 🙂

Wonderful story! And so inexpensive although I’m sure two bucks seems like a great deal of money to a preschooler.
