I’m DaniGirl, and these are a few of the things that I am: a photographer, a creative, a mom, a Canadian, a teacher, a maker, an explorer, and a storyteller. My pronouns are she/her.

I’m fascinated by and currently obsessed with learning all I can about tarot. I’m a science and evidence sort of girl and more than a little skeptical of anything that feels like “woo”, so my passion for tarot cards felt out of character until I realized that it’s just a tool you can use to amplify your own inner voice, or akin to a corrective lens you can use to help clarify your own world view. It’s like a road map or an instruction manual, one you can use to help find the best version of yourself. I’m still quite skeptical about tarot for fortune telling or predicting the future, but I will admit that there is more than I can explain with my rational brain at work with the cards.

I chose the name Rideau River Tarot for a couple of reasons. We live on a small island in the Rideau River near Ottawa, and I look at the river almost every day of my life. So, it’s a great local and meaningful name. I happened to be reading Rachel Pollack’s (amazing) book Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom, and in the chapter on the High Priestess she describes water behind the curtain on the High Priestess card, and that water represents intuition and the inner self. It made me think about how much water is a touchstone in my life – just being near open water feels nourishing, and I’m drawn to it over and over again, to the point that I’ve joked I must have been an old fish wife in a former life. Rideau literally means curtain, like the one behind the High Priestess. Water, intuition, Rideau, tarot, curtain, river. Rideau River Tarot. Perfect!

In 2023, Rideau River Tarot got rolled into the larger adventure called the Curious Crone.
