One book that changed your life:<br \/><\/strong><em>Generation X<\/em>. It made me take a very critical look at my life and who I was and what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. It was an awakening that gave me the strength I needed shortly thereafter to leave a less than ideal marriage at the tender age of 24.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. One book that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve read more than once:<br \/><\/strong><em>Contact<\/em>, by Carl Sagan. Each time I read it, I get something new from it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. One book you would want on a desert island:<br \/><\/strong>Any of Alice Munro\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s short story collections. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d spend all my time trying to figure out how she works her magic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. One book that made you laugh:<br \/><\/strong>I read some of the autobiographical bits of Stephen King\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <em>On Writing<\/em> out loud to Beloved and had tears running down my cheeks from laughing so hard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. One book that made you cry:<br \/><\/strong>I can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t read the newspaper these days without crying. The first time I read S.E. Hinton\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <em>The Outsiders<\/em> when I was thirteen, I couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t see the page for sobbing when Johnny died. <\/p>\n<p><strong>6. One book that you wish had been written:<\/strong><br \/>The owner\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s manual for my kids.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. One book that you wish had never been written:<br \/><\/strong>Should any book not have been written? Some time around the 400th reading, I was beginning to feel that way about <em>Where&#8217;s Spot?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>8. The book that you are currently reading:<br \/><\/strong><em>The Continuity Girl<\/em> by Leah McLaren. (Thanks, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog-pourri.blogspot.com\">Nancy<\/a>!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. One book that you have been meaning to read:<br \/><\/strong><em>Brave New World<\/em>, Aldous Huxley.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. Books you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t enjoy:<\/strong><br \/>Formulaic chick lit; serial-killer\/FBI crime fiction (although I do like a good legal thriller).<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. Book you remember as a real page-turner:<\/strong><br \/><em><a href=\"http:\/\/momm-eh.blogspot.com\/2005\/05\/read-this-book-time-travelers-wife.html\">The Time-Traveler&#8217;s Wife<\/a><\/em> by Audrey Niffenegger. I also got some serious late fines recently on Zadie Smith&#8217;s <em>On Beauty<\/em> because I ran out of time but couldn&#8217;t stop reading it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12. Non-fiction books you have enjoyed:<br \/><\/strong>I love books on astronomy and cosmology, and reading about things like superstring theory and chaos theory. <em>A Brief History of Time, The Elegant Universe, The Left Hand of Creation.<\/p>\n<p><\/em><strong>13. Children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s books your family has loved:<br \/><\/strong>Tristan really enjoyed books in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/ref=nb_ss_b\/104-6818276-8104751?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&#038;field-keywords=matthews+midnight+adventures\">Matthew\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Midnight Adventure<\/a> series. Funny, a little bit silly, great illustrations and Canadian, too! When they were little (as opposed to now, being all grown up and all) they both absolutely adored the book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapters.indigo.ca\/books\/item\/books-978156145108\/1561451088\/If+You+See+A+Kitten+If+You+See+A+Kitten?ref=Search+Books%3a+\"><em>If You See A Kitten<\/em><\/a>, by John Butler.
