Interesting interview in the G&M this morning with Penelope Leach, following up on her new book Child Care Today: Getting It Right for Everyone. I haven’t read the book, but I agree with what she’s saying in the interview.

I love Penelope Leach. My parenting-mentor friend gave me her book and it was my favorite guide to small child issues.

I have to say I also agree whole heartedly with what she says in the article. I am lucky, her ideal institutionalized day care centre describes my centre to a tee. Most of the staff have been there for 15+ years. Both my sons have had the same teachers (and they attended 4 years apart). They have one teacher assigned to a small number of kids, to provide more personalized care. It is such an amazing place. And every single day I thank goodness that I am able to place my child there. Especially when I hear about children being locked in basements, or day cares doubling as grow houses…
