Stars in my eyes

So I didn’t even get to tell you some of the really cool stuff that’s happened to me in the last couple of weeks.

First, I got to have lunch with the lovely and almost unbearably kind Ann a couple of Saturdays ago when she was in town for the Baby Boom show. As if there weren’t already enough benefits to being tucked into the wing of Ann’s friendship, I got in to the show for free by saying I was picking up their guest speaker for lunch! Would have been great, except I was so behind schedule by that point that I only had time to race to the area where she was giving her presentation and didn’t get a chance to see the rest of the show at all. I did get to meet Mr Ann, though, which was a treat.

We snuck away to Boston Pizza where Ann had a very respectable salad to my drippy, artery-choking steak and cheese sandwich, and not once did she mock me for the gravy running down my chin. She’s that nice. And she brought me a birthday present, too!

All of that to say, each time I see Ann is more fun than the last. I hate to fawn so openly, but really I can’t say enough how much fun it is to spend time with her.

Two days later, the first day I was in Vancouver, I got to tag along on a mini-tour of Vancouver Film Studios, which was really cool! I got to walk on to an actual film set – in particular, a mock-up of the Oval Office from the set of the upcoming X-Men 3. Although I didn’t bump into Hugh Jackman or Patrick Stewart, I did walk by Halle Berry’s workout trailer. I think I gained two inches around my waistline just standing there. And I also got to walk on to two ship’s bridges from the new Battlestar Gallactica TV series. Movie sets look so much smaller in real life! None of the three sets were much larger than my living room-dining room.

And then yesterday (you can see I’m working down from most to least coolest) on my lunch hour I stood at the base of the York Street Steps, just outside my office and a half a block from where the Rolling Stones filmed their music video a couple of weeks ago, and I watched a few takes of the filming of a TV movie. It looks like it was just filler stuff – nobody was talking, and they just filmed people walking in carefully choreographed aimlessness around a little fountain and set of benches. Apparently it’s a TV movie starring Kelly McGillis called “Black Widower“. (That link is kind of cool – it’s the casting call for extras and stand-ins. Hmmm, if only I had some spare time.)

What do you think, is the universe trying to tell me to give up my day job? Think I can earn the equivalent of a ful-time mid-level government salary on acting and writing alone? Anybody want to be my sugar daddy patron?

  1. Awww Dani I would be your Sugar Momma if I had the cash…But I don’t so don’t quit your day job just yet and you will be writing one day for all of us to read. I just have that much faith in you.
    Hugs

  2. I wish I could be your SugarMama. Except that neither of us would get any work done, because we’d be constantly visiting the blogs of our blogsisters in crime, going to Starbucks, etc. And I’d have to sell off one or more of the kids to be able to afford your salary, and that would be bad for business. Really bad for business.
Thank you for your very kind comments about me, btw.

  3. Hey, I was wondering when we’d get the other side of the Ann visit. You both sound like oodles and barrels of fun! Hmm, the universe may be saying something, indeed 😉
