Traveling

I’m traveling today, flying across the country to the west coast. And yet, I typed this up ahead of time so you’d have something to read today. Wasn’t that nice of me?

I fly infrequently enough that I still love it, still find it a bit of a thrill. It’s been about a year since the last time I was on a plane, and that was the rather mundane 45 minute flight from Ottawa to Toronto – achieve altitude, fly at cruising altitude for three minutes, begin descent. Ottawa to Vancouver is a more substantial 5 hour flight, with mountains no less. Mountains rock!

One of my favourite parts of traveling is watching the other travelers, especially at the airport. I’ve always been a bit of a people watcher, but something about being in transit makes me even more curious about the people around me. Where are they going? Where are they coming from? Are they nervous? Excited? Bored? What is their story, their greatest achievement, their biggest dissapointment?

If you like snapshots of other people’s lives, you’ll love Overheard In New York. It’s just a handful of people recording snippets of conversation overheard in NYC. Strangely compelling and addictive!

  1. I saw her go by and it was definitely directed in my direction…unless you were at the Dragon Boat races today too.

  2. Aaaahh….I love flying too. Well, I ‘did’ until I had to do it with toddlers. Gone are the days of sipping my diet coke, reading a trashy mag and admiring the mountains from above. I have done that trip over the Rockies Dani, it is truly stunning. Enjoy every moment of your adventure, I am on the edge of my seat excited for you!
P.S. I saw her waving at Snack Mommy first

  3. Have A WONDEFFUL Trip Dani! Like you I fly very seldom I guess the last time was 6 yrs ago when I went out to Winterpeg to my niece’s baptism. Yes I flew in January! I was great! I would love to have excuses to fly more and the money to do it.
See you when you get back my dear have fun Blogging!

  4. a wave, on my poor mistaken commentees… That was a delicate hand passing across her mouth to stifle the tiniest escape of gas caused by her sipping champagne.

  5. Well Batman, my BIL was at the races, and he said she waved to him, but he gestured that I was in Headingley at the time I got one here too.
    Great day for paddling yesterday!

  6. Have a fun safe trip. I too did that flight to Vancouver over those gorgeous mountains SOLO, what a treat.
After having taken EIGHT planes in the last month with THREE kids, took out most of the fun of flying;), but watching their awe over all sorts of little things brought a new form of excitement for me.
