{"id":6544,"date":"2012-01-19T13:06:37","date_gmt":"2012-01-19T18:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danigirl.ca\/blog\/?p=6544"},"modified":"2012-01-19T13:06:37","modified_gmt":"2012-01-19T18:06:37","slug":"celebrate-winter-at-manoticks-shiverfest-next-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/danigirl.ca\/blog\/2012\/01\/19\/celebrate-winter-at-manoticks-shiverfest-next-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate winter at Manotick&#8217;s Shiverfest next weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"drop_cap\">I<\/span> read somewhere in the Ottawa media recently that today, January 19, is the official &#8220;dead of winter.&#8221;  Today is the date with the lowest average daily temperature of the entire year, and the average daily temperature creeps upward from here.  So now we can officially say that winter is more than half behind us.<\/p>\n<p>I was trying to pacify myself with that thought as I scraped that merciless ice off my windows at sparrow&#8217;s first fart yesterday morning in the rampaging wind.  Summer is coming!!<\/p>\n<p>Since winter is on it&#8217;s last legs (heh, maybe a little <em>too <\/em>optimistic?) you might as well get out and enjoy it during Manotick&#8217;s official winter carnival, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.manotickvca.org\/shiverfest.html\">Shiverfest<\/a>! It runs next weekend, January 27 through 29.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/postcardsfromthemothership\/6602729595\/\" title=\"Snowman sledding by Dani_Girl, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7007\/6602729595_1f038260b7.jpg\" class=\"frame aligncenter\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" alt=\"Snowman sledding\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There will be horse-drawn sleigh rides, a chili-cookoff, a photography contest, a trivia night, bands, reptiles, a kids&#8217; play area and more!
