I‘m taking a break from All-PEI-All-The-Time blogging to share a terrific little bit of news that hits a little closer to home. Did you hear that my very favourite toy store, Mastermind Toys, has opened a Barrhaven location? You might remember last year I blogged about it when they opened their first store in Ottawa, and it quickly became a family favourite.

I really love Mastermind Toys, and I especially love that I won’t have to make the trek out to Kanata or St Laurent Blvd when I’m hunting for birthday gifts or treats for the boys. In fact, the day the new Barrhaven store opened, Beloved stopped in and stocked up on a couple of party gifts and a neat jigsaw mat for Lucas. I love that the selection of products at Mastermind Toys seems to be a curated collection, not at all the same old things you see in all the big box stores. Sure, they have popular toys like the Rainbow Looms and Playmobil, but they also have toys, books and games I’ve never seen in any other store. I especially like the wide selection of things that only cost a few dollars but aren’t junky, perfect for loot bags, wee treats and things for boys to spend their allowance on.

The new Barrhaven Mastermind Toys is celebrating its grand opening this weekend, July 10 – 13. Drop by the store and you will enjoy free loot bags for the kiddies, special offers and giveaways and only on Saturday July 12, cupcakes! Of course, Mastermind’s complimentary gift wrap will be available all weekend as well.

Speaking of giveaways, I’m delighted that the fine peeps at Mastermind Toys have offered a $50 gift card for me to share with one lucky reader. Yay for sharesies!!

Would you like to win the $50 gift card from Mastermind Toys? Leave a comment on this post (on the blog, not on Facebook, please!) telling me what you love about summer. That’s it!

Later and more relaxed evenings with the kids, bike riding, water play, camping, cottage, seeing our neighbours out and about! We’re so much happier when we have sunshine and fresh air!

Love the summers as there is no schedule in our house. We do something when we want or have a PJ day!

I love being able to leave the house at a moment’s notice – everyone just throws on flip flops and we’re ready for the park/ice cream shop/beach/toy store. No struggling with coats and boots – the mud room is SO much cleaner too (other than park sand, which, SIGH). I’m also a Facebook liker!

I am loving this summer because I am off with my 6 month old. We like to go for walks in the warm weather and sit out on our deck.

It is a very special summer for us and I am so lucky to be able to spend it with him.

The smell of fresh cut grass is the best! Spending time in the fresh air, either in a park or at the beach. The food, corn on the cob, watermelon, cherries! Festivals and family activities are so much fun. These are all the things I love about summer. It’s what summer is all about!

Love the store – just what Barrhaven needed!!!

16 Holly July 10, 2014 at 1:22 pm

I love summer (and fall, winter and spring). But summer mostly reminds me of a time when life was a little bit slower and a little bit more magical. A time where dripping popsicles, eating beans freshly picked from the garden and waiting with anticipation for a trip to wonderland. Days and days of unscheduled fun.

17 Holly July 10, 2014 at 1:23 pm

Oh, and I’d love to get more Tegu blocks from Mastermind.

18 John July 10, 2014 at 1:26 pm

I love the chance to get out of the city and head to a lake to relax and unwind. I already liked on FB.

Summer is my favourite season, because of outdoor swimming, picnics, parks and lakes. It so nice to enjoy warmer weather and time with the family on vacation.

20 Thomas K July 10, 2014 at 1:29 pm

I love the weather! You can go do lots of fun stuff outside without freezing. Best season of them all!

In the summer I love the festivals. Endless festivals. Ribfest, volunteering at JazzFest, Bluesfest, the list goes on.

22 Shannon July 10, 2014 at 2:47 pm

During the summer I love watching my son play soccer..
I have already liked on fb.

What I love about summer is going to the drive-in. Pillows, blankets, popcorn and snuggles from my three favourite guys plus a movie under the stars? Get in the truck!

24 leigh-anne July 10, 2014 at 4:17 pm

I love the summer for camping. Nights in front of the fire with the family looking at the stars. I love planning little trips with the three kids and doing crafts.

Live spending time with the kids and visiting Saunder’s Farm with them. Yay for Mastermind Toys opening in Barrhaven!
