It's the winter for this sort of problem, I guess. I was "lucky" enough to invest only the cost of a dryer maintenance call to determine that the problem was the vent. Then, I started calling duct cleaning services looking for someone to clean the vent. Most will do it only if you have them clean all of your ducts and some won't do dryer vents even then. I think Power Vac of Ottawa did the work. Of course the guy stood in my bathroom, leaned out the window and pulled down the bird's nest. I wrote my saga up as advice to Reid but who knows if she'll ever read it.

Your doctor was right. Unhooking the dryer for a few days shouldn't hurt. Just remember, if it's a gas dryer you are pumping carbon monoxide into your home. If it's electric, you're fine. I live in a cold, dry climate and I unhook our dryer all winter.

I'm surprised it takes so long for a dryer vent cleaning company to come out. We can usually provide next day service. Duct-911.com/blog/

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time of it. We have all been sick around here too. My three year old was vomiting just in time for his birthday and then the baby just in time for Easter. Yeah! grrrr
Hope things start looking up for you!

I'd figure out who it is that puts the dryer duct in when a house is built (a plumber, maybe?) and ask them to look at it. In the meantime, we bought a kit at Wal-Mart with a bunch of tools in it for cleaning your dryer duct. One of them was an attachment you stick on the end of the your vacuum hose. If I didn't spend so much time blogging, I'd be up there trying it out right now, because my dryer has gotten so slow a hair dryer would be more efficient.

I have the slightly older version of your washer and dryer. I absolutely love them. I don't use the sensa dry option; it takes way too long and even then the middle of the pile is damp. 50 minutes on low will dry 16 bath towels or 14 pairs of pants. At least after you get the vent cleaned:)
We had the opposite problem on the weight issue. Now he is 9 months 24 lbs and about 30 inches. Wearing 2T clothing.
I feel for you though. We had the flu, pink eye, strep throat, pink eye, flu. All in a row. What a lovely winter we are having!

Some days, wouldn't it JUST BE EASIER to dump everything out of the drawers and just pour molasses on them and be DONE WITH IT?

Today I'm ordering you to take ten minutes fr yourself. No kids, no husband, no clothes, no baby. TEN MINUTES FOR YOU.

Big hugs, darlin'.

We went through something like that, had the repairman here twice to check why dryer wasn't drying clothes, and then my neighbour tried to clean the vent with a long skinny something or other gadget and all...along...the ONLY problem was the outside vent was covered in snow. We cleaned that area up, and all was good.

But you got brand new appliances!!!!!! Woo Hoo!!! We got ours in 2000, very basicm boring set, I asked Rob how he felt about getting newer/better/bigger ones, and he said to ask him in another 8 years. Sigh.

Poor little Lucas...and poor worried Mommy...hang in, you KNOW it will get better.

I feel for you I really do. Sorry Lucas is still not gaining fast enough. And if it makes you feel better, when we lived in Winnipeg, every winter we caped of the external vent and put the hose on the floor to put warmth in the basement. We had a special lint filter for it, but we did it all winter long. And a stocking will work fine.

Oh, ouch! How frustrating.

And I'm sorry that amount of laundry can only be calculated by a supercomputer - it's quite beyond what my imagination can handle.

I hope the problem gets fixed, like, yesterday.

I'm sure once everything gets sorted out, you'll love the high-efficiency machines. Our laundry goes much faster than it used to and my MIL's HE dryer is so good, it actually dries the clothes faster than the washer can wash them! Now THAT'S amazing.
