I’m still fascinated by the way the Internet brings us together.
The woman who works in the cube next to me just got an e-mail from her first boyfriend. She hasn’t heard from him in 30 years, but she saw his name in an online article and found a way to contact him. He lives in South America and married her best friend – they met through my colleague. It’s sweet to see how excited she is.
Before Christmas, I got a call from an old high school girlfriend. I haven’t spoken to her in ten years, but she had a dream about me and used Canada411 to find me. She called me up out of the blue one day, and we’ve been corresponding ever since.
The same thing happened to Beloved a couple of years ago. His best friend from high school was thinking about him and Googled him. Through the search returns, he found a company Beloved used to work for and they were nice enough to forward the message.
So not only does the Internet bring new people into our lives, it helps us track down old friends, too. Have you used the Internet to track down an old friend? Or maybe you’ve searched for gossip about someone for whom you feel a little less love? (Okay, I admit it, I have on occasion Googled my ex-husband… nothing scandalous, sadly.) Share your stories, it’s Friday after all.

- I got Googled! I was playing around in the referral logs (another exciting Friday night – who needs a date when there is technology to while away the hours?) and I noticed one of the referrals was a Google query. (Tangent: My blog is Google-able — I had no idea! I’m almost as excited about this as I [...]...
- Google as oracle I have been playing in the referral logs again. (I suppose this is an unintentional segue from my last post on guilty online pleasures.) It continues to amaze me the questions that people ask the Internet. A lot of the hits I get are on infertility, low morphology, IUI and IVF. Searchers came [...]...
- Solidarity, sista The things that bring people here never fail to amaze, delight and occasionally horrify me. This one falls into the second category. I hope I gave at least some commiseration if not comfort to the poor soul who googled “37 weeks pregnant exhausted and pissed off.” We hear ya, sister. Only [...]...
- Auntie matters We spent the long weekend with my brother’s family. He and his wife have added to my mother’s collection of grandsons with an absolutely adorable 8 month old named Noah. On Saturday afternoon while Simon was napping, Tristan and I made our way over to my mother’s house for a visit, and I finally had [...]...
- Googlewhacking, Star Wars and shameless boasting I got one of the oddest comments ever the other day (and that says a lot around here!): Hello!Did you know you’re a googlewhack?(deleted – see original comment)Matt 10.04.05 – 3:21 pm I’ve been called a lot of things in my day, but being called a googlewhack was a first for me. Not sure whether to [...]...

You know I never thought of trying to find anyone with the net. BUT I do use the net to keep me sane. I check my emails all the time and I love the way a person canpop off a “I’m thinking of you ” note and send it off without too much effort. Letter writing sad is a lost art form but I love this just as much.
Hmmmm… I was just thinking of this this morning. I’ve looked up old friends from grade school with the help of classmates.com.
I have also searched for my ex (especially when I dream of him which I wish I would stop!) but haven’t found him. Only his father pops up. He is a professor at a college here.
And of course, I have tons of internet friends I’ve met through ivfc. (winkwink)
I have reconnected with quite a few people via the Internet. It’s been really wonderful. A girl I knew in Grade 6 tracked me down last spring and helped me to find my Grade 6 teacher. We both went out to visit our teacher last summer. It was incredible. (I blogged about it all, of course.)
